Design

Full Architectural services

During the design phase, as California licensed architects, we work with our clients through the following steps:

  • Initial consultation - to understand client's desires and needs as well as limitations, i.e. site condition, city code, time and budget

  • Define scope of work - survey and document existing conditions, itemize needs and requirements, estimate cost.

  • Schematic design - provide first design idea, basic drawings, 3-D model presentations. We meet with client to get their input and revise the design until it meets client's needs as well as respects the limitations.

  • Architectural drawings - refined design and drawings on computer software and generate 3-D models.

  • Structural engineer drawings - we work with structural engineer partner to get structural drawings.

  • Permit - we stamp the final drawings, submit for permit application, and work with the building department  and get the construction approval.

  • Construction - we provide full spectrum construction service (see BUILD section), or we can work with the contractor of your own choice and advocate for your interests during the whole process.

CREATIVE SOLUTIONS BASED ON LISTENING TO THE CLIENT’S NEEDS

We respect the fact that each of our clients have their own dreams and unique tastes. We treat each project as a fresh start, and we have been worked on a wide variety of projects

Because we are a design-build firm (being both licensed architect and licensed contractor), we know the nuts and bolts of how things are built. We do not design for the magazine covers, everything we design and draw is thought about in terms of constructability and cost.

If we have a bias, it is a desire to learn from nature, to keep designs simple, balanced, practical and comfortable. We believe a home is a functional sanctuary. We consider a client’s entire property as part of the design; landscape and house as part of a whole.

Green/ sustainable design

In addition to traditional homes, in the past 20+ years, Moore Architects have designed and built different building systems, using non-traditional green building materials from straw bales to natural lime plasters. We have rich experience with radiant heating, SIP, Passive houseLEED Platinum standards. Our project was featured on the cover of Natural Home magazine. We are featured in the book Recreating the American Home by Mary James. We built one of the only Passive House/ LEED platinum building in the US. We have also designed and built multiple Net-Zero homes in the recent years.

Build
